Ensuring an inclusive and accessible environment for a changing Euston

A desktop review of the Euston Overstation Development masterplan.

Client Lendlease Euston Development LLP
Project Euston Overstation Develpment masterplan
Dates July 2022 - March 2023
Challenge A planning masterplan is a document that sets out macro decisions, goals, and frameworks over the lifespan of the development (~25years). It is prepared by the developer and approved by a local authority. The challenge for the developer, and the interested stakeholders, was to meet current regulation and legislation to ensure the future place is inclusive and accessible; how can this be done meeting the existing needs of the local community and future residents living in a world altered by climate change? We worked alongside global engineering practice Buro Happold as a team to achieve this.
Methods Desktop Research
Outputs 28 page Recommendations checklist, 3 x client workshops
Outcomes The client is better informed in how to ensure the site is inclusive and accessible of all people's needs. We endeavoured to detail how poor decisions can lead to a place being racist, transphobic, ableist, cultural incompetent, and more, and how the recommendations and frameworks provided will go some way to ensure these did not happen.
